Is Zendaya Playing Mary Jane In Spider-Man: Homecoming Answered (Video)

Good news for fans of Spider-Man and Mary Jane, Zendaya is not playing the character in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Zendaya recently appeared at the MTV Movie Awards where she confirms her character is "100% Michelle."

"My character is 100% Michelle. That's her name. I promise you, I am not lying. She's definitely a different character. I think this is a character that I can have fun with and just really create what I wanted to make her. The director had a lot of really cool ideas how to make her weird and interesting and cool. She says weird things at the wrong time, but I think that's why people like her. It was nice. She's like my spriit animal, like how I feel in the inside."

Originally it was rumored Zendaya was playing the red-haired Mary Jane from the comics, with it even said Peter referred to her in Spider-Man: Homecoming as "MJ" some time near the end of the movie. However, fans weren't big at the idea of replacing such an iconic character, and now we see there's nothing to worry about.

Watch the video below for more from Zendaya.

"Spider-Man: Homecoming" has a July 7, 2017 release directed by Jon Watts starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Michael Keaton, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, with Marisa Tomei, and Robert Downey Jr.

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming.  Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.
