The Marvel Studios Phase 4 plans are going COSMIC, with it rumored to included an Eternals movie.
Numerous rumors have hit the net the past couple of weeks offering up that Marvel Studios will be adding another COSMIC team with Eternals.
It's also been rumored that Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige will announce the Eternals movie soon.
With The Avengers: Infinity War coming out this month as well as next year's The Avengers 4 featuring Thanos, who is an Eternal, a movie based on the characters down the line certainly seems to fit.
It will be interesting to see what approach the MCU takes as will they make it comedic like Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor: Ragnarok? Or could Eternals have more of a straight science-fiction approach, something in the tone of Blade Runner 2049? Or somewhere in between?
Worth a mention is that the DCEU is creating their New Gods movie, and now we see Marvel Studios responds with Eternals (Jack Kirby created both properties), which is similar to Marvel going with Captain America: Civil War following DC announcing Batman Vs. Superman.
Also worth a note is that Eternals probably replaces Inhumans in the MCU as the two are pretty close and related.
In the comics, the Eternals were created by the Celestials who performed genetic experiments on early humans. Two branches were created, the Eternals and the Deviants (Thanos has the Deviant gene, which explains why he looks different), and they were given powers that include the ability to manipulate cosmic energy.
The Inhumans were created by the aliens known as the Kree who also manipulated early human DNA, but they got the idea and were inspired from studying a dead Eternal.
Noted Eternals include Ikaris, Sersi, Gilgamesh, Interloper, Ajak, and Eros (Starfox), the brother of Thanos.
Mark Gruenwald also featured an Eternal in his epic Quasar run from the 90s with the speedster Makkari, Wendell Vaughn's best friend. Gru also used Malestrom, the son of an Inhuman and a Deviant, as Quasar's archenemy in "Cosmos In Collision." Abnett and Lanning also brought back Maelstrom for their 2008 Guardians of the Galaxy comic which saw the return of Wendell Vaughn as Quasar and Phyla-Vel becoming Martyr.
In addition to Jack Kirby, Eternals has also been written by Peter B. Gillis, Neil Gaiman and Charles Knauf. Thor also has history with the Eternals and Deviants with Roy Thomas' Thor: The Eternals Saga.
