New to Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and the MCU is none other than Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stallone.

We know that Kurt Russell is playing Ego, the father to Star-Lord, but Sylvester Stallone's role in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is still a mystery.

As the two happen to be very well known actors, you may have thought their appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 was a cameo or a one-off.

Director James Gunn tells Fandango that Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stallone are on board the MCU for the long haul.

"This is definitely not a one-off [for them]," Gunn said. "They’re both characters that we’ve taken a lot of time to develop, and they’re a big part of the MCU now."

Regarding who Sylvester Stallone might be playing, Gunn did say his character ties into whoever Michael Rosenbaum is playing, leading to possible speculation Stallone and Rosenbaum could be members of the Nova Corps. I threw it out there the pair could be Charlie-27 and Vance Astro, members of the original Guardians of the Galaxy from the comics.

Some fans even think Sylvester Stallone might be playing Galactus, with Michael Rosenbaum as Silver Surfer. Perhaps some sort of deal between Fox Studios and Marvel Studios was made for the rights to Galactus and Silver Surfer, as the two studios basically traded for use of Negasonic Teenage Warhead in Deadpool and Ego in Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

With it learned Sylvester Stallone will be a bit part of the MCU, I wonder if he really is playing Charlie-27, and that Marvel Studios is building a spinoff around the original Guardians of the Galaxy team from the comics? That would be another great franchise for Disney in itself.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" has a May 5, 2017 release directed by James Gunn starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Michael Rooker and Sean Gunn. New cast members include Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan and Kurt Russell.

Synopsis:

Set to the all-new sonic backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" continues the team's adventures as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill's true parentage.
