Justice League Opens Less Than $100 Million
The DCEU no more?
Justice League opened under $100 million this weekend to a less than stellar $96 million, which fails to perform up to box office estimates of near $115 million.
Update: It's reported the official number is $94 million, which is the lowest domestic opening of any title in the DCEU.
Regardless what you think of the movie, I think Batman vs. Superman is to blame as BVS netted a whopping $166 million for its opening. Fans weren't happy with Batman vs. Superman, and we see a large amount of them decided not to come out for Justice League.
The reviews for Justice League didn't help as well as they were greatly mixed, and Justice League comes in at 39% at Rotten Tomatoes.
In addition, it's fast becoming known the final version of Justice League is not what Zack Snyder intended despite claims by the cast and producers that Joss Whedon wasn't completely overhauling the movie. Details and rumors are beginning to trickle online that Justice League is no where near Zack Snyder's version, and it's reported a 3-hour Zack Snyder cut does exist.
Justice League actually started off to a good start with its Thursday previews generating $13 million (better than Wonder Woman), but possibly with the Rotten Tomatoes score becoming known and poor word-of-mouth reviews, its subsequent Friday, Saturday and Sunday showings petered out.
Comparing Justice League to Wonder Woman:
Justice League - Friday: $38.8 million; Saturday: $33.05 million; Sunday: $24.150 million.
Wonder Woman - Friday: $38,247,254 ; Saturday: $35,253,398; Sunday:$29,750,819.
Justice League has a current $185,500,000 foreign gross giving it a worldwide box office of $281,500,000.
Justice League has a November 17, 2017 release directed by Zack Snyder, with the story by Chris Terrio and Zack Snyder, the screenplay by Chris Terrio and Joss Whedon, and stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon and Willem Dafoe an Atlantean, Nuidis Vulko.
Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
