When Thor: Ragnarok opens November 3rd, the Son of Asgard will find himself on the alien planet Sakaar, otherwise known as Planet Hulk in the Marvel comics.
While Thor is out being a drifter in space, Loki's mishandling of Asgard leads to Hela breaking out from her imprisonment, which leads to Thor finding himself in the gladiator arena on Sakaar minus not only his magical trusty hammer Mjolnir, but also his blond Asgardian locks.
"Sakaar is basically where every wormhole across the universe dumps its trash, so you get people from all walks of life with all sorts of incredible abilities and powers," Hemsworth says in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly. "No one cares what prince or King Thor may have been in another world. Also, his strength is pretty easily matched with those he finds himself amongst."
Thor will come face-to-face with his fellow Avenger, the Hulk, who is not the same Hulk seen in the previous Avengers movies, described in the article as "Sakaar's most recognizable gladiator."
"He's much more of a character than the green rage machine you've seen in the Avengers movies," says Mark Ruffalo, who returns for Thor: Ragnarok. "He's got a swagger. He's like a god."
Entertainment Weekly also reveals that Chris Hemsworth initially thought they both had been fired when Hemsworth learned Thor and the Hulk weren't appearing in Captain America: Civil War, but Marvel quickly calmed his fears when they told him about Thor: Ragnarok.
"I was like, 'What?' Are we being fired?'" Hemsworth said. "Marvel quickly reassured us, 'No you guys have got your own journey going on, and in order for that to work you can't be a part of this one.' Look, it turned out just perfect because we got to do a whole different kind of thing we wouldn't have able to do otherwise."
Thor: Raganarok has a November 3, 2017 release directed by Taika Waititi starring Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk/Banner, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, Anthony Hopkins as Odin and Sam Neill in an unknown role.
