After all, The Avengers 4 likely looks to be the last movie for actors Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans; so pairing Jackman as Wolverine alongside Downey's Iron Man and Evans' Cap looks to have a minimal window of opportunity.
Prior to Disney officially announcing it had purchased Fox Studios, a rumor surfaced stating the deal was already done and suggested Hugh Jackman could return as Wolverine.
To add fuel to the fire, prior to Hugh Jackman leaving the Wolverine role, he did state that if ever he had the opportunity to work with the Avengers, that he would strongly consider it.
Now Collider catches up with Hugh Jackman who reacts to the Disney and Fox deal, noting that he thinks he probably won't be playing Wolverine in the MCU, but he did go on to state that he is very open to anything that comes next.
“It’s interesting because for the whole 17 years I kept thinking that would be so great, like I would love to see, particularly, Iron Man and the Hulk and Wolverine together. And every time I saw an Avengers movie I could just see Wolverine in the middle of all of them like punching them all on the head. But it was like, “Oh well, that’s not gonna happen,” and it was interesting just when I first saw that headline — it was just the possibility of it and who knows what’s gonna happen, obviously — I was like, “Hang on!” But I think, unfortunately, the ship has sailed for me, but for someone else I would like to see Wolverine in there.”
“Never before have I felt the landscape so bare — maybe I should be worried about that,” the actor of the stage and screen now tells Collider. “But… I just finished, wrapped a film with Jason Reitman called The Front Runner, which is a political comedy and I do feel right now very open and excited to have no idea what is coming next.”
A recent report also did state that the Disney and Marvel executives are excited about recasting Wolverine for the MCU, but it must be said that it would be a huge fan service if Disney and Hugh Jackman did cameo Wolverine for Avengers 4.
The Avengers 4 is the last chance we'll get to see all the original Marvel actors and characters together, and just think--Kevin Feige could give fans what they most want, which is Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in the yellow costume!
