Commissioner Gordon has a new recommendation for Batman.
Sunday night at the Golden Globes saw Gary Oldman win the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama for Darkest Hour, and the fan-favorite Dark Knight actor was asked about the DCEU and thoughts on someone playing the new Batman if Ben Affleck leaves the role.
Toofab reports that while Gary Oldman said he hasn't seen any of the new DCEU movies, that Gary Oldman recommends Joaquin Phoenix as Batman.
"I would like to see someone like Joaquin Phoenix play it," Oldman said. "This is no disrespect to Ben Affleck. I think it really depends on who is at the wheel that lifts it."
This isn't the first time Joaquin Phoenix's name has surfaced to potentially play Batman as Darren Aronofsky wanted Joaquin Phoenix for the role in his and Frank Miller's adaptation of Batman: Year One.
Regarding Ben Affleck continuing to play Batman, there have been many rumors and speculation that he won't be continuing the role, and it has been said the new Matt Reeves Batman movie will feature a new actor and will be a standalone film.
Ben Affleck also recently said he'll stay on as Batman if it's good enough.
"For me, it's interesting, and I always evaluate this stuff on the merit of the material," Affleck said. "I want to direct a 'Batman' movie, and I never got a script that I was happy with, so they are starting over and writing another script. And right now, I think a lot of different possibilities I think for the way the DC Universe could go, and I will just follow my interests in pursing that. And I know that I love working with this group of people, and it was a real joy for me to make this movie."
