At one time, Warner Bros. was developing a Flashpoint movie, which if you are a fan of the comics, is a really dark story.
Now it's again being said that the DC Comics "Flashpoint" story has been dropped from The Flash movie, with the current rumor stating it will be more fun and light-hearted.
According to the Hollywood trade sites, The Flash movie has abandoned the dark and somber themes from "Flashpoint," and the film is now said to have the tones and feel of a Back to the Future.
The Flash movie looks to finally begin production early next year with Ezra Miller starring; John Francis Daly and Jonathan Goldstein (Game Night) are directing the flick.
Interestingly enough, at one time Back to the Future director Robert Zemeckis was rumored to tackle The Flash.
A previous version of The Flash script also heavily featured Ray Fisher as Cyborg, but it's unknown if the John Francis Daly and Jonathan Goldstein version includes the character.
News of WB dropping the Flashpoint story from the movie doesn't come as a surprise (I've been saying it for a while now) as it seems they want to move away from the dark and somber tones of Man of Steel and especially Batman vs. Superman.
The DC Comics Flashpoint story saw Barry Allen go back in time to stop his mother from being murdered, but when he returned to the present day, he found himself in an altered time stream. Some of the changes included that it was the young Bruce Wayne who was killed, with his parents surviving; his father went on to don the cape and cowl and become The Batman, while his mother actually went on to become the villain, The Joker. Flashpoint also featured the Amazons, led by Wonder Woman, at war against Aquaman and his Atlanteans, which was destroying the Earth.  Flashpoint also didn't have its Superman as a young baby Kal-El was taken prior to being found by the Kent family and experimented upon and kept out of sunlight.
With Flashpoint apparently no more, we can also speculate that means Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan won't be appearing as Batman and the Joker, respectively.
