Fox Studios has resumed filming on Deadpool 2 following Monday's motorcycle accident that killed stunt driver Joi “SJ” Harris.
Deadline reports new details in that production didn't have time to create a special helmet to wear underneath her Domino wig so Harris did the stunt without one. It's unclear if the helmet would have saved her life.
According to witnesses, Harris was thrown airborne from her motorcycle when it went out of control causing Harris to slam onto the ground with the bike crashing through a window of a local building. Deadpool 2 marked the first time Harris performed as a stunt performer, and she is known for being the first African-American female professional road racer.
The report states Harris first joined Deadppool 2 last Wednesday and had done several takes successfully. It's said there was a previous stunt double that did have a helmet, but when Harris was brought on board there wasn't enough time to create the special helmet.
It's not specified why Harris was brought on board for the stunt other than "it was realized that they needed a different stunt performer for the production."
Both Fox Studios and Ryan Reynolds have offered their condolences.
"We are deeply saddened by the accident that occurred on the set of Deadpool 2 this morning," a statement from Fox Studios says. "Our hearts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues of our crew member during this difficult time."
Ryan Reynolds tweeted out the following:
