While Henry Cavill is set to take off next year along side Zack Snyder in the new Superman movie, Man of Steel, another actor tried out for the super role, an actor also known for playing a character made of hardened metal.
Daniel Cudmore, who played Peter Rasputin aka Colossus in the X-Men movies, tried out for the Superman role in the Man of Steel as well as the preceding movie, Superman Returns.
Cudmore tells Newsarama that he wasn't really into the role for Superman Returns, but did give it a go for the Man of Steel.
I auditioned for the one with Brandon Routh, which was not the greatest audition because I left acting for a year to pursue some sports. It was one of these auditions where my agent was like, “Just please go.” I was not in the headspace for acting. I needed some time away and I think the audition was probably just absolutely terrible. Then I auditioned for Man of Steel that is coming out. Really, I wanted them to see a good audition. I wasn’t having these aspirations of being the lead character.
Cudmore not getting the iconic role paved the way for the likes of Brandon Routh and Henry Cavill, but that doesn't mean Cudmore doesn't get a well-known roll of his own.
The 6'6" actor is set to play John-117 "Master Chief," in the live-action web series, Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn, as well as reprising as Felix in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 set to be released November 16th.
