Henry Cavill is attending this year's WonderCon as no mere mortal - he is representing his upcoming flick Immortals -- and also answering questions on Zack Snyder's Superman, of which he plays the Man of Steel.
Cavill spoke with MovieLine and mentioned how his training for Immortals is going to be different from Superman, that the look of his body will be different, as well.
The actor is being trained by Mark Twight and Gym Jones, who were also behind Snyder's 300 and Sucker Punch.
“It’s going to be a different kind of shape. When you see the Immortals shape you’ll see what I mean. We obviously haven’t had the final brief yet, it’s going to adapt and change as far as when Mark sees my body adapting to the training he’ll go, ‘Okay, Henry can do this,’ or ‘Henry can’t do this,’ or ‘His body will look better like that.’ It’ll be fine-tuned and tweaked as we go along. But I think it’s going to be a different sort of shape from Immortals.”
As we can see from the Immortals image, Cavill is sporting a slender muscular look. He is at about 6% body fat (pro body builders are around 3-4%) which shows off his abs. Basically, any body fat percentage under 10% will give you that abs look - to a varying degree.
Most likely for Superman, Cavill will be more muscular looking. The Immortals looks is often referred to as the "Brad Pitt" look. With Snyder saying he wants his Superman to "kick ass," you can expect Cavill to look so - and not the "toothpick" version we see in Immortals - which obviously fits in with the time and setting of the movie. I would expect Cavill to have more chest development, broader shoulders, delts and traps, biceps and triceps for Superman - a bit larger upper body.
Cavill informs us that the Superman costume is being worked on and has seen concept designs.
“There have been some concept costume fittings,” said Cavill. “I’m so excited - it’s fantastic. Really, really fantastic. Sometimes… I mean, I’m sitting here talking to you about being Superman, for example. And then it dawns on me and I go, ‘Oh my God, I’m Superman!’ It’s really exciting and an incredible opportunity, so as soon as I’m jumping into the costume and stuff it starts to become real. As soon as you don the cape and the S shield, it’s one of those things where you go, ‘Wow - this is real.’”
Immortals is due out November 11th, 2011.
