The Wolverine 3 Takes Place In The Future
Following the news of the villain, now the setting for the third Wolverine movie has become known.
"The Wolverine movie takes place in the future," Simon Kinberg told Cinema Blend.
Kinberg didn't offer further details, but the mention Wolverine 3 will be set in the future further hints at the use of the "Old Man Logan" comic book storyline, which is set in more than fifty years in an alternate post-apocalyptic future.
Regarding the casting of Boyd Holbrook as potentially a new character/villain for the movie, it's possible since Marvel Studios owns the rights to certain characters used in the comic, that Kinberg and Fox may be replacing them with original characters (Red Skull, Hawkeye, etc.)
The untitled third Wolverine movie has a March 3, 2017 release directed by James Mangold starring Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart. It's been said the movie may be rated-R.
