With all the Justice League news comes word of just who Willem Dafoe is playing in film.
Willem Dafoe is playing the DC Comics character Nuidis Vulko, who in the comics is a key figure in Atlantean politics as well as a scientist.
Vulko is from a generation preceding Aquaman, which is reflected in the movie by the character featuring gills, which signifies that the Atlanteans adapted to underwater breathing at some point in their history.
Various set reports describe Willem Dafoe in Justice League as featuring a scruffy beard with long silver hair. Vulko will wear armor that features silver lacing and is weathered by the years, setting it apart from Aquaman's own gleaming and gilded newer armor.
It's unknown exactly how Willem Dafoe will play into the movie, but it has been said he will be an ally to Aquaman. At times in the comics, Vulko has been a close ally as well as an enemy of Aquaman. It's known the Atlanteans hold one of three Mother Boxes in the Justice League movie, so perhaps Dafoe is involved that way. It's also unknown if Dafoe will be in James Wan's Aquaman movie as well.
