Thor 2 opened last night at 8pm bringing in $7.1 million* domestically for the movie, which is more than double its midnight opening from 2011.
Thor 2 already has raked in $145 million internationally as well, and with reviews and word-of-mouth being overall positive, expect the number to climb.
Early estimates peg Thor 2 to have an $80-100 million opening weekend in the U.S, and it's looking closer to the latter number.
The first Thor grossed about $450 million worldwide, but with the success of The Avengers and Iron Man 3, it's looking highly likely Thor 2 will do better.
More estimates will become known once Friday and Saturday's numbers are released. Kevin Feige did say a "Thor 3" is likely if Thor 2 is a success.
Over at Rotten Tomatoes, Thor 2 only has a 66% positive rating with critics and 86% for fans. I haven't been checking, but I have yet to hear anything bad about the movie. I've even heard the movie described as a "Lord of the Rings meets Star Trek." Sounds good.
*(It probably should be noted that Thor 2's midnight opening numbers includes the 8pm and midnight shows while Thor only had a midnight premiere)
