A new villain has landed to take on Chris Hemsworth in Thor: The Dark World.
Variety has it that Akinnuoye-Agbaje will take on the role of the strongest of the Dark Elves as Algrim the Strong.
Akinnuoye-Agbaje, know from Lost, is also said by Variety to be playing the suped up version of Algrim — Kurse.
In the comics, Malekith the Accursed (played by Christopher Eccleston in the movie) coerced Algrim to take on Thor. The ensuing battle saw Malekith betray Algrim, with Algrim falling into a pit of lava. However, Algrim's magic armor saved him, but not before his injuries led to amnesia. Eventually, Algrim is healed by The Beyonder (who is noted to be a living Cosmic Cube, I believe) and transformed into Kurse. The Beyonder then sends Kurse to battle Thor, but Kurse discovers Thor's Korbinite counter-part — Beta Ray Bill!
It's rather interesting that the Marvel Phase 1 movies dealt with the cosmic cube, and now with Thor 2 we have a sorta reference to The Beyonder.
Could we see The Beyonder as a big baddie?
Thor: The Dark World hammers into theaters November 8th, 2013 directed by Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones), starring Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Idris Elba as Heimidall, Zachary Levi as Fandral and Jaimie Alexander as Sif.
