A new viral campaign has kicked off for J.J. Abrams Star Trek Into Darkness with a new website.
"Are You The 1701" was found in a frame in the new trailer which takes you to a corresponding website: areyouthe1701.com.
From there it is asked the same line that Benedict Cumberbatch asked in the trailer as well with, "Shall We Begin?"
Next, the user is to enter their e-mail and birth date to which a response is given that you will be informed of when the search begins, along with Twitter and Facebook websites that have yet to be set up.
Fans of Star Trek will note that 1701 is a reference to the Enterprise registry number "NCC-1701."
The use of the number and question also seems to hint at a possible real world reference to "Are you part of the 1%."
This could have something to do with Benedict Cumberbatch's character, John Harrison, who is described as both a terrorist and someone that the audience might sympathize with. I think you can put the rest together from there.
Star Trek Into Darkness has a May 17th, 2013 release date in 3D, is directed by J.J. Abrams and stars Chris Pine as Capt. James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Karl Urban as Leonard "Bones" McCoy, Zoe Saldana as Nyota Uhura, Simon Pegg as Scotty, Anton Yelchin as Pavel Chekov, John Cho as Hikaru Sulu and Benedict Cumberbatch as an unnamed villain.
