[[wysiwyg_imageupload:9048:]]We get some more information about the new Shredder for the Michael Bay-produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot.
It's recently become known that Shredder will be played by 56-year-old actor William Fichtner in the movie.
The original Shredder was named Oroku Saki, and now in a recent interview with Screen Rant, Fichtner gives up the name of his Shredder.
It's Eric Sachs (note: possible spelling error due to transcription).
As it's a non-Japanese name and as this is a Michael-Bay movie, the internet has exploded with the thought that the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles isn't following canon.
However, it could be as simple as William Fichtner's character is half-Japense? Or Fichtner is the father of the real Shredder (perhaps a female)?
There was even a version of Shredder that was an alien in one of the animated shows.
Fichtner also offers the following, suggesting a departure from the norm as well:
But Turtles is coming together very, very cool. There is a whole interesting dynamic that happens in the world of Turtles and all I can really say about it at this point while working on it is that the Turtle film, it’s not like anything that I remember about the Turtles before. I feel like this Michael Bay-produced movie is just gonna really be something else. I’m pretty excited.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has a June 6, 2014 directed by Jonathan Liebesman produced by Michael Bay and also starring Will Arnett, Danny Woodburn, and Alan Ritchson, Noel Fisher, Jeremy Howard, and Pete Ploszekas the Turtles.
