Robocop was screened last night at Comic-Con giving attendees a glimpse at the new Jose Padihla-directed movie.
The footage starts off with Samuel L. Jackson as Pat Novak doing a news segment (i.e. Wolf Blitzer or Bill O'Reilly).
U.S. machines are promoting peace abroad for Operation Freedom Tehran shown with locals embracing them, but the robots are seen scanning the people.
Novak argues about why not using these robots at home, as the American people are so robo-phobic.
Then we see Michael Keaton as weapons manufacturer Raymond Sellars before a Senate Committee stating we need the robots on the streets of America.
Then we are shown an explosion in Tehran with chaos from the robots and a reporter trying to dodge the mayhem.
Then back to Sellars at Senate where he states the machines don't feel anything, and he is asked by the Senate about the machines killing a child, would they feel anything. Sellars says no.
The footage cuts out with Jose Padihla, Joel Kinnaman, Samuel L. Jackson and Michael Keaton on stage at the Con for the panel.
Following that it's back to the footage with a look at the origin of the new Robocop.
Alex Murphy is shown as a family mand and then injured in a car bomb explosion where he becomes Robcop, because the American people are against robots and having a man in the suit would make the bot more relateable.
The new Robop is at first described as just being a machine - as it's supposed to do everything - with Murphy "just along for the ride."
The original suit is shown as well as it's a design that is pitched to Sellars, but he doesn't like it and wants it black.
Robcop is shown using nightvision, riding his motorcyle and shooting his gun. He comes in contact with his wife where he tells her he doesn't remember her etc., doctors then are shown doing reprograming etc.
The panel also explains why there is a human hand, and that is to give it a human element, to be able to literally shake hands.
It's also said Gary Oldman (Dr. Dennet Norton) was shown briefly wearing a lab coat.
Scenes are also shown through Robcop's visors with it said drones, the ED-209s and more robots are shown.
Robocop has a release date of February 7th, 2014 directed by Jose Padihla and starring Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman and Samuel L. Jackson.
