Review: Frankenstein, Agent Of S.H.A.D.E. #3
What is there not to like about a book that stars versions of the classic horror monsters of Hollywood?!
Jeff Lemire and Alberto Ponticelli have given us one of the most fun books to not only come out of the New DC 52, but of any comic publisher I have read in quite some time.
Frankenstein, Agent Of S.H.A.D.E is filled with rockem' sockem' fisticuffs combined with a heavy action oriented sci-fi tale.
This issues sees Frank and Co. on another planet - Monster Planet! A portal has opened to earth that threatens everyone. Previously, the monster squad (love it!) went looking for the former Mrs. Frankenstein, and when they found the Misses she was holding off the monster hoard all on her lonesome! Now they face an army of creatures by the likes none of us have ever seen! Well, at least the Justice League that is! Frank shows everyone just who is boss as he takes on this titanic spider without a thought! From there, we learn that other gigantic ghouls threaten mankind. Frank splits the team, and they are off. That's not all as time is not on their side; they have less than three hours to take down the remaining hoards!
Ponticelli does just as a fantastic job at giving us a wallop of an issue. Filled with much detail and a gritty style, the art is the perfect compliment to this type of story.
If you are looking for a fun ride, hop onboard! It's a rag-tag group of could-be would-be possibly-some-of-them-are-villains and/or misunderstood heroes!
Frankenstein's monsters are awesome!
