Review: Flashpoint: Abin Sur -The Green Lantern #2
With a world in darkness and a Lantern on its way, the light that shines bright is needed now more than ever! Abin Sur has made his way to earth - and his presence is known!
Another great issue from Adam Schlagman, Robson Rocha, Felipe Massafera and Joe Prado, Flashpoint: Abin Sur - The Green Lantern #2 is full of action and intrigue. The hard hitting second issue picks up after the events of Flashpoint: Hal Jordan #1, with Hal finding the dieing alien - Lantern 2814! However, here is where the "flashpoint" happens as none other than Cyborg interrupts the ring transference - and ultimately history as we know (or knew!) it!
With Abin Sur revealed to the world, his mission becomes one of rescue; however, this leads into confrontation with not only the Guardians regarding his primary mission - but Thall Sinestro, as well! While many of the heroes and villains known to the world of Flashpoint might have changed with this new twisted and dark universe - some are exactly as we remember them! And this doesn't look good for Abin Sur! What a last page!
This issue is a payoff for fans reading a majority of the FP tie-ins, the main FP book and the previous years worth of Green Lantern stories. You have Cyborg, the military leader from the main Flashpoint series; as stated above this ties into the Hal Jordan book; and of course with the inclusion of Sinestro, the search for the White Lantern entity, and Atrocitus(!) - you have your years worth of GL stories.
And Adam Shlagman does an exemplary job weaving all the different tales together.
My only complaint is we get only three issues; however they are heavily Green Lantern Abin Sur centric. While seeing a Lantern interact and go full out on this dreadful world might not be Abin's role (is there hope for Hal? - spoilers!), Abin plays the perfect part as both protector and savior. Abin Sur is a noble character, full of dignity and responsibly; qualities that just might cost him his life - again!
Fans of Green Lantern should be more than happy with this series. There are so many questions left unanswered, so many possibilities given, you will want the conclusion in your hands immediately!
As the the sky goes dark and hope fades, who will be left to utter the words:
