The second issue of Grant Morrison and Rags Morales' Action Comics #2 has landed and it's just as fantastic as the first!

Continuing from the events seen at the conclusion to the first issue, the new DCU Superman is captured and tortured by none other than Doctor Luthor! We also get a couple more familiar members of the Superman mythos with appearances by Doctor Irons and Sergeant John Corben! Fans of the DCU of old will surely most recognize those two!

But that's not all you will recognize - as the last two pages of the story are a doozy! And a cosmic one at that!

In addition, the birthrite of the Last Son Of Krypton is made known!

Morrison gives us a great issue, continuing the theme of humanity vs aliens, with Superman at the very center. Though our Man Of Steel may be subjected to numerous physical - shall we say - evaluations at the hands of his human captors, it is this super man that truly shows the best of human nature. The young Kal-El manages to keep his wits about him - much to the displeasure of Doctor Luthor, who hates him even the more for it!  Luthor should know - you can't keep a good Superman down! At least he will soon!

Once again, we are witness to the breathtaking art of Rags Morales (the same guy that said he doesn't like Superman?!), with panels and panel of super feats that make everything old seem new again. As this Superman has not yet achieved full power, Morales and Anderson's depictions almost come as a tease - a tease of what everyone knows is to come! In one particular sequence, Superman uses not only his heat vision, but his super speed to an awesome effect.

I couldn't be happier with this new Superman and the direction Morrison and Morales are taking him. Keep it up!
