[[wysiwyg_imageupload:6392:]]Though Prometheus might have been one of the worst movies yours truly has ever seen, Fox still gave the sequel the green light as it was a box office smash.
If you were left scratching your head after watching the movie - or just plain disappointed like everyone else - it seems the blame in part lies with Damon Lindelof (and who are we kidding, director Ridley Scott as well) whom Fox brought on board to do rewrites to the Jon Spaihts script.
Spaihts original script was to connect to Alien more by having Prometheus occur on the same planet, with the Space Jockey ship being the same one that Sigourney Weaver and crew discover.
But that's not what happens as reportedly Lindelof changed the name of the planet, and hence the connection to Alien.
Getting back to news of the sequel, it was recently learned that Damon Lindelof will not be coming back for Prometheus 2.
Now, according to Bloody Disgusting, Fox is in a panic because they are left with an end of a movie they really don't know what to do with, and are taking pitches from any writer that can clean things up.
It's said Lindelof's departure has put Prometheus 2 in a "state of flux," and in a "state of jeopardy."
We're guessing Lindelof most likely had no clue what to do with the sequel as well.
Lindelof also wrote Lost, Cowboys and Aliens and Star Trek Into Darkness.
Slashfilm asked Lindelof for a comment; here it is:
As to whether Ridley and Fox are ‘freaking out’ about me not working on a sequel, well that’s news to me. I retain awesome relationships with both. More importantly, the idea that there aren’t many, MANY writers out there capable of taking the reins is sort of ridiculous. I did not map out a trilogy and then walk when the going got tough. Anyone who says otherwise doesn’t know me and doesn’t know the truth.
