Hollywood might have blown it again when it comes to tracking their own movies as various entertainment news sites are reporting that Pacific Rim may have a $50 million opening.
It was most recently reported that Pacific Rim was tracking poorly with audiences with it stated the movie might open to only around $30-36 million.
However, since that news hit the net fanboys across the globe have taken to various social networks giving the movie a needed push and free promotion.
Pacific Rim opened yesterday with a 7pm advance screening as well as the midnight opening, with a reported $3.6 million gross which is on par with World War Z and Prometheus, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com.
Hollywood trackers predicted that World War Z, the zombie flick starring Brad Pitt, was going to bomb at the box office, but just the opposite happened as it netted a $66.4 million opening.
The same may hold true for Guillermo Del Toro and Pacific Rim.
Currently on Rotten Tomatoes, the film is getting positive ratings by both critics and audiences alike with 72% and 88%, respectively.
The movie stars Idris Elba and Charlie Hunnam as humanity is threatened from the deep by monsters called the Kaiju. In turn, mankind creates monsters of their own in the form of gigantic robot mechs known as Jaegers.
I saw the movie last night and felt overall it was really fun and entertaining with the special effects off the chart. Definitely worth the price of a ticket.
