[[wysiwyg_imageupload:3494:]]DC Comics announced at the New York Comic-Con that, as expected, Batman writer Scott Snyder and former Justice League artist Jim Lee will be on a new Superman comic book next year.
While the official title has yet to be announced (not sure why), the current thought is that it will be same as Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill's new movie, Man of Steel, which debuts next June.
The direction of the book will be its own, but still fit into current Superman DC Comics continuity.
"This will play along with the other Superman books in the sense that it's in continuity, but we really wanted to carve out our own territory," Scott Snyder told CBR."This really is sort of the biggest, most epic Superman story we could do together while having our feet planted firmly in continuity and making sure that everyone had enough room. For us, this is an independent book and something that will challenge Superman in a big way that's unique to our book. At the same time, I'm friends with Scott and with Andy too, so we're really excited to play alongside each other and share ideas."
[[wysiwyg_imageupload:3495:]]Snyder also offers that this Superman won't be a story of the dual nature of Clark vs. Superman, but more action-packed.
"This isn't going to be a story where it's Clark versus Superman or seeing the two of them split. It's more about challenges for Superman that rock him to the core emotionally, psychologically and also physically. It really is going to wind up putting him up against someone who can go blow-to-blow with him and really take him down," Snyder said.
And over at The DC blog The Source offers the following.
"I've loved Superman since I was a kid, and to be working on him now, with the great Jim Lee, is simply too thrilling for words. It's a dream come true for me on every front,” Snyder said. “I don't want to give too much away, so I'll just say it's the Superman story I'd write if I only ever got one chance to write the character. It's an exploration of everything I love and am fascinated by about him. Like Court of Owls for Batman, it's a character piece for Clark - it's going to challenge him to his core. And it's definitely epic in scope, with huge action and drama - the biggest and most earth shaking action I've ever done. Can't wait to see what you all think of it. Couldn't be more grateful or excited to get the chance to make this one!"
Man Of Steel flies into theaters June 14th, 2013 directed by Zack Snyder starring, Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel, Diane Lane as Martha "Ma" Kent, Kevin Costner as Jonat han "Pa" Kent, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Michael Shannon as Zod, and Russel Crowe as Jor-El.
