Now Zack Snyder Changes Pete Ross In Man Of Steel, Too
[[wysiwyg_imageupload:5873:]]We know that Zack Snyder is going for something new and not seen before in regards to his new Superman film, Man of Steel.
We know about the costume changes and action-oriented tone of the movie as well as some character differences, such as Jimmy Olsen becoming Jenny Olsen.
Seems we can add one more to the list with the character of Pete Ross, who is played by the young actor Jack Foley.
In the comic books, Pete Ross was a childhood friend of Clark Kent who knew about his super identity, unbeknownst to the young Superman.
As a true friend, Ross would keep the info to himself and use it to aid Clark while he went on with his super duties.
Of course, Smallville fans are familiar with Pete Ross as well.
Well, in the latest incarnation of Superman it seems that Pete Ross will not be such a good friend to Clark Kent as, in a recent interview, Jack Foley let it be known that his character bullies the young super man.
Now, it really wouldn't be unheard of for a teenage Superman to be bullied, as we can recall in Superman: The Movie, the scene with Jeff East at the football field; essentially Clark had to make himself look like the fool to hide his secret powers and was picked on for it.
However, in the Man of Steel, young Clark is about 13-years-old, who may not have come to fully realize his powers as of yet.
More than likely what Zack Snyder is doing, it setting up the "alien" aspect of Superman by having him bullied with feelings of being alone etc.
It does turn out though, that Snyder isn't going too far from the original source material as ArtCenter.edu has it:
Jack Foley, a teen actor whose character in the film bullies a young Clark Kent before the two become friends
Snyder also seems to be going with the "discovery of Clark's powers storyline at a young age" as we saw with the trailer below.
Man of Steel flies into theaters June 14th, 2013 directed by Zack Snyder and starring Henry Cavill as Superman, Michael Shannon as Zod, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Russell Crowe as Jor-El, Kevin Coster as Jonathan "Pa" Kent, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha "Ma" Kent, Christopher Meloni as Colonel Hardy, Harry Lennix as General Swanwick, Antje Traue as Faora and Aylet Zurer as Lara Lor-Van.
