It seems so many fans have been taking to various social networks offering suggests for music to be included in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 that it has warranted a response from James Gunn.
Guardians of the Galaxy included various 80s tunes which were incorporated into the storyline, with the music score of the film actually being a best seller.
It's unknown if Gunn will follow the same route by using more songs, and Gunn even admits that might not be the case.
One thing for sure is Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will not feature the song "Kung Fu Fighting."

Oh boy. I'm getting sent dozens of song ideas every day on Twitter that "need" to be on Awesome Mix Volume 2 in the Guardians sequel. The enthusiasm, as always, is appreciated. And, hell, I always love a good song suggestion or two. But it's going to be hard for people to come up with songs that fit the second film, since you don't know the flavor or the story. As many of you know, I wrote all of the songs on Awesome Mix Volume into the script, and are a part of the journey itself. They aren't just a list of my favorite tunes - in fact, I think the only song on Awesome Mix 1 I would have considered a favorite before the film is "I Want You Back". So even if pop songs do play a part in the next Guardians - and they may not, as no one should expect just a rehash of the first film with different songs and different settings - it would be very difficult for folks to guess a song that "needs" to be in the movie.
And for the hundred or so of you who have suggested "Kung Fu Fighting," I can pretty much say, with certainty, as long as I am involved with Guardians of the Galaxy Kung Fu Fighting will never, ever sully our Dolby Atmos. Same goes for "Disco Duck."
Have a great Tuesday, friends.
