Three months ago we first heard mention of a new Hellraiser movie reboot from Patrick Lussier and Tom Farmer ("My Blood Valentine").
Lussier and Farmer are also behind "Drive Angry," which has a DVD release coming up (May 31st). The two were interviewed by MTV (yet to be published) and the topic of their Hellraiser came up.
From the sound of their description this will be sort of a new take -- and sort of not. I imagine they wouldn't want to do a total new take as Hellraiser has a large following; in short, they don't wan't to tick off fans, I am guessing.
"[The film] sort of defies explanation," Farmer told MTV with a laugh. "But right now it's a really exciting project that delves into the world Clive [Barker] created and then takes it in sort of a couple different directions, and it has some revisitations of the stuff at the same time it shows you some things you haven't seen before."
Of course the big question is in regards to Pinhead, played by Doug Bradley.
I think it's safe to say that Pinhead is Hellraiser.
Lussier and Farmer touch upon Bradley and Pinhead, as well. They teased if it's an origin (which is not set in stone) we could be seeing an all new "sexier" version, and they definitely don't rule out an appearance by Bradley.
"Doug is pretty critical and key to the whole history of the franchise, just his face and how it looks covered in the pins and his voice, just his presence," Lussier said. "That's something that we're working through with Dimension right now, about the uniqueness in the approach to Pinhead and how he'll appear and how he'll resonate with the past and how he'll be presented to the future."
They are also looking at a release date for the Hellraiser reboot sometime in 2012, but that's not a guarantee, either.
I suppose the duo can't do any worse than the previous movies.
Will Lussier and Farmer tear your soul apart?
