It's been suggested that Yondu is some sort of space pirate in the movie and has some sort of bond with Star-Lord in the movie. Speaking with Total Film, Michael Rooker offers that perhaps Yondu might make it out of the movie not only alive but as a hero.
"There’s hope in this character, but the stuff going on… I can’t talk about it but… it’s challenging," Rooker offered about Yondu. "I’m looking forward to what the future holds for the role. It’s beautiful."
Rooker was also mum whether or not Yondu would have any super powers in Guardians of the Galaxy. In the comics, Yondu doesn't really have any "super" powers, but has a sixth sense of sorts that is an ability of his alien race.
"I don’t think I’m at liberty to discuss any powers of any sort," Rooker offered. "Y’know, most of the roles I play, just by it being who I am – normally they’re somewhat formidable individuals. That’s just sort of my look and my build. So we utilise that in almost everything I’ve done, and it’s the same in Guardians."
The "Guardians of the Galaxy movie" has an August 1, 2014 release directed by James Gunn and starring Chris Pratt as Peter Quill Star-Lord, Dave Bautista as Drax The Destroyer and Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Benicio Del Toro as The Collector, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Lee Pace as Ronan, Djimon Hounsu as Korath the Pursuer, with John C. Reilly as Rhomann Dey, Glen Close as Nova Prime, and Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket Raccoon.
