Apparently a big announcement is shortly forthcoming from the BBC regarding Doctor Who.
It's said an embargoed press release only went out to a few lucky web sites, but the details may have become known.
The big news is that Matt Smith will be leaving Doctor Who as of next August.
Recently, Matt Smith did state that he will be returning for Season 8 as the 11th Doctor said, "We come back and shoot the Christmas special over the summer, then we go on to the next series, which will either start filming at the end of this year or at the start of 2014."
So if the information is, indeed, true, it looks as if we'll have a new Doctor for Season 8 with possibly Matt Smith appearing only for an episode or the first half of a season?
Or it's possible Smith just meant "we" meaning "Doctor Who" and the show begins filming Season 8 sooner or later.
Bleeding Cool also has it that the BBC will be announcing new Doctor Who episodes, and the new season will not be cut in half/have a mid-season break.
It's also said that a new Doctor could already have been cast.
The official news will be landing online in a few hours and Cosmic Book News will be sure to update.
This could all tie into the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary episode this November, with the big reveal at the end of Season 7 that introduced John Hurt as The Doctor:
