Too bad Tom Brevoort didn't.
When Kieron Gillen first appeared on the scene at Marvel Comics he began with a five issue run on S.W.O.R.D, a rather fun space-based book that saw Agent Brand lead Earth's defense against aliens onboard a space station.
Marvel didn't bother promoting it, or even explaining to retailers what is was about, and it was quickly shelved.
But now in the pages of Uncanny X-Men, Kieron Gillen will be re-visting his original storyline as UNIT makes his presence felt once again!
"There's a catastrophic failure aboard the Peak's brig and all its prisoners are dropped,” reveals Gillen to Marvel.com. “The main villain of the arc is actually UNIT, who I introduced in [the S.W.O.R.D. series] as a cross between CP-30 and Hannibal Lector."
The resulting failure will see the X-Men team up with — The Avengers! Yes, the Assemblers will fight along side the Muties one last time before Avengers Vs. X-Men hits in April.
“It's showing everyone involved as the greatest super heroes on Earth. It's about showing how we hope they'll never fight. It's about showing why they're going to.”
This all takes place beginning in Uncanny X-Men #9, with artist Carlos Pacheco, for a two issue arc debuting in stores April 11th.
Look for it!
