With Roberto Orci stepping down from directing Star Trek 3, the rumors mills are kicking into high gear.
Five names recently became known as possibilities to direct Star Trek 3; however, one of those names, Duncan Jones, stated it's the first he heard about it and is too busy with Warcraft.
Now the possible reason as to why Orci stepped down from directing Star Trek 3 has potentially become known, and it's the Guardians of the Galaxy movie.
Honestly, I'm not sure I'm buying this one, but Bad Ass Digest is stating Paramount wants Star Trek 3 to feel more like Guardians of the Galaxy.
It's said Paramount wants Star Trek to be as huge as Guardians (which is a no-brainer), but then it's said apparently Paramount executives are looking at characters like Rocket Raccon and Groot, and then wondering why Keenser doesn't have more of a role.
The report also mentions possible reasons as to Orci's departure (though Orci is still on board as producer) with it stated Paramount's notes on Orci's scripts were too much, and even that Paramount has shut down production on the film as Paramount is busy discussing Star Trek 3 with other filmmakers.
While I can't see Captain Kirk dancing at the end as he faces off against a villain, the one bonus Star Trek 3 could have that its predecessor didn't, which would be more like Guardians of the Galaxy, is the third movie should be set in space.
Guardians of the Galaxy worked because it was something new, something audiences haven't seen and weren't expecting.
Star Trek 3 with more of Keenser and another CGI character in addition to goofiness between the characters -- I hope not.
