Joss Whedon Doesn't Talk About Clark Gregg As The Vision In Avengers 2

The Avengers movie saw uber-fan-favorite character S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson, played by Clark Gregg, apparently meet his demise.

Apparently because — the audience never saw him actually die; Coulson was left getting worked on by the EMTs.

It's been widely speculated on the internet that Clark Gregg will return to The Avengers 2, not as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson, but as The Vision.

Director Joss Whedon was recently asked about Clark Gregg, The Vision, and The Avengers 2, with the director not denying or confirming the rumor.

Basically Joss Whedon beats around the bush, discussing his can do's and don't's with Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige.

The Huffington Post asks Whedon about The Vision in The Avengers 2 and if he has the power to make it so. Here's Whedon's response:

I have some power, you know? I think there's a level of trust. You know, Kevin Feige and I have always had mutual respect, and on the first movie he was very supportive. But there were definitely things where they were like, "Hmm, we don't see that." And I think now Kevin's in a place where it would be more like, "We don't see it, but we think you do."

Joss Whedon continues mentioning how he doesn't have a green light to do anything he wants, but notes how in their discussions they go back and forth about various possibilities.

Yeah. And that doesn't mean they're just going to roll over and I'm going to say, "Oh, it's 'Great Lakes Avengers' and we're going to get Squirrel Girl and you're gonna love it." You know, they need to believe. But all I want to do is make the movie that they want. And so it's been great. We're having that same kind of, "What if? Oh, and what if?" And "I was thinking it would be funny ... ooh ooh ooh." There's definitely a level of earned trust, but as with any good studio head or producer, that doesn't mean a free pass.

So is Agent Coulson a possibility in The Avengers 2? While Joss Whedon doesn't say so, it's been said that Clark Gregg has signed on to do 6 Marvel Studios movies — but only appeared in 4 so far.

There's also been something about Vin Diesel wanting to play The Vision as well.

The Avengers 2 assembles May 1, 2015 with Iron Man 3 on May 3, 2013, Thor: The Dark World on November 8, 2013, Captain America: Winter Soldier on April 4, 2014, and the Guardians of the Galaxy movie on August 1, 2014.
