Drew Pearce, writer of Iron Man 3 and most recently the creative mind behind the "All Hail The King" short film dropped an interesting tidbit suggesting that Joss Whedon might be directing "The Avengers 3."
Speaking in an interview with Movies.com about whether or not there will be an aftermath for the Mandarin short, Drew Pearce insinuates Joss Whedon is directing the third Avengers movie.
Honestly, it’s a question above my pay grade. One of the things when you’re a writer or director in the Marvel universe is you come in, you leave some tasty morsels dangling at the end, and maybe you’re the one who comes in and picks them up again next time, or maybe it’s someone else, or maybe they just hang there awhile and that’s fine too. Despite any cliffhanger-ness to the short, I also don’t feel like it’s unsatisfying. That’s all you can really hope to do. Unless you’re Joss [Whedon] and you’re making Avengers 2 and 3, and then you have a pretty good idea if you’re making the next one or not.
It's possible that Pearce may have just been making a general comment, but with past statements from Whedon comparing The Avengers 2 to Empire Strikes Back, perhaps Whedon will finish out the trilogy.
Robert Downey Jr. is signed on for "The Avengers 3" as well, which has an unannounced premiere date.
The Avengers: Age Of Ultron is currently filming and hits May 1, 2015 directed by Joss Whedon starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson and Mark Ruffalo with James Spader as Ultron.
