According to a new report, Joe Cornish of Attack of the Block fame is no longer in contention to direct Star Trek 3.
Recently it became known that J.J. Abrams, Damon Lindelof and Alex Kurtzman wouldn't be involved with Star Trek 3 as well.
Bob Orci appears to still be sticking around and will be bringing two newcomers on board with J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay to help write Star Trek 3.
Variety's report of the new writers mentions that Cornish is no longer involved. It's also said the entire cast - including Zachary Quinto - is expected to return.
According to various sources, it's been said Paramount wants Star Trek 3 to be released with the 50th Anniversary of the franchise in 2016.
No new director names have surfaced as of yet.
Back in 2011, I had the pleasure of partaking in a round-table interview with Joe Cornish about Attack The Block, a science-fiction movie about aliens invading the British housing projects. Cornish would have fit well with Star Trek. He also co-wrote the Ant-Man movie for Marvel Studios.
