[[wysiwyg_imageupload:5295:]]Saturday at the Guild of America Awards the newly announced director of Star Wars Episode VII, J. J. Abrams, commented on getting chosen for the highly anticipated movie.
Abrams tells EOnline that "it really is an incredible thing" while on the Red Carpet and "it's wildly surreal."
Abrams is mum on the subject as he says, "It's obviously way too early to talk specifics. But I'm excited to actually start it."
Speaking of specifics, it came out that Matthew Vaughn was in contention to direct Star Wars as well, and that he pitched Chloe Moretz in the lead role as a female Jedi. Though the information has not been confirmed, previous rumors sounded similar, which may give insights as to screenwriter Michael Arndt's script.
Steven Spielberg is said to have been a major part of the reason why Disney went with J.J. as it's said he convinced both Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy.
A recent report even came out and said that Abrams will begin filming this Summer in the UK with possible battle scenes at a location near where Doctor Who was filmed.
It's also been stated that Abrams is not holding to the 2015 release that Disney has planned, which would give the director more time with the movie, and regarding Star Trek 3, it looks as if Abrams will be on as producer.
