Luke Evans has been cast as Bard The Grim in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit, Deadline reports.
While it is stated Bard The Grim will have a larger role in the second movie, Deadline states the character is akin to an Aragorn from LOTRs.
Bard The Grim is a skilled archer and the son of Girion, Lord of Dale - and is the one to confront the dragon, Smaug, with Bilbo's help (I suppose it's a spoiler so I'll stop there).
Evans had roles in Clash of the Titans and Robin Hood, as well as the upcoming Immortals and Three Musketeers.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits theaters December 14th, 2012 with the sequel, The Hobbit: There And Back, a year later on December 13th, 2013.
Ian McKellen returns as Gandalf the Grey with Martin Freeman playing Bilbo Baggins.
Also reprising their roles from “The Lord of the Rings” movies are: Cate Blanchett as Galadriel; Orlando Bloom as Legolas; Ian Holm as the elder Bilbo; Christopher Lee as Saruman; Hugo Weaving as Elrond; Elijah Wood as Frodo; and Andy Serkis as Gollum.
