It seems there is no stopping the cosmic powerhouse that is James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy as the film has just broken records in China.

Guardians of the Galaxy opened in China this weekend (under the translated title: "Interplanetary Unusual Attacking Team") and raked in 26.6 million to give the movie the #1 spot for the weekend.

Guardians of the Galaxy also comes in third behind Iron Man 3 and Captain America 2 in China for the best opening weekend.

Deadline also has it that Guardians of the Galaxy was also good for an all-time industry record opening in October.

China now is the third best international market for Guardians of the Galaxy, presently trailing behind the UK and Russia.

Guardians of the Galaxy has now passed its domestic gross of $326.07 million, as overseas it now stands at $361 million.

As noted, the international gross for Guardians of the Galaxy has passed by the likes of Iron Man 2 ($312M), The Wolverine ($282M), Thor ($268M), Iron Man ($267M) and Captain America 2 ($194M).

Look for a further boost when Guardians of the Galaxy is set to open in Italy at the end of the month.

To date, Guardians of the Galaxy has about a $687.07 million worldwide gross.
