James Gunn has brought his composer on Super and Slither, with Tyler Bates, to do the music score for the Guardians of the Galaxy movie.
Gunn announced the news on his Facebook:
Grateful to be working with my favorite composer, Tyler Bates, on Guardians of the Galaxy. Unlike most films, Tyler writes huge chunks of the score first so that I can actually film to the music. During action scenes and huge dramatic moments we blare the score on set so that the cast, crew, and camera can move in harmony with the music. Music is often an afterthought in film, but never for us. And everything Tyler's done so far has been amazing!
In addition to Super and Slither, Tyler Bates has a long list of credentials including the God Of War: Ascension video game; Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch, Watchmen, 300, and Dawn the The Dead; Conan the Barbarian; the new AMC TV series Low Winter Sun and lots more.
The Guardians of the Galaxy movie has an August 1, 2014 release directed by James Gunn and starring Chris Pratt as Peter Quill Star-Lord, Dave Bautista as Drax The Destroyer and Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Benicio Del Toro as The Collector, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Lee Pace as Ronan, Djimon Hounsu as Korath the Pursuer, with John C. Reilly as Rhomann Dey and Glen Close as Nova Prime.
Also rumored for the movie are Ophelia Lovibond and Enzo Cilenti.
