Possible plot details for the Gareth Edwards-directed Star Wars spinoff, due out in 2016, have landed online.
According to SlashFilm, the Star Wars spinoff will be about a group of bounty hunters going after the plans to the first Death Star.
It's said the story is set during the New Hope era and sees the Rebels possibly hiring Bounty Hunters to retrieve the Death Star plans.
The movie is compared to a "Seven Samurai or Suicide Squad meets Ocean’s Eleven in the world of Star Wars."
Possible evidence for the story is cited in the opening text to Star Wars: A New Hope:
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away....
It is a period of civil war. Rebel
spaceships, striking from a hidden
base, have won their first victory
against the evil Galactic Empire.
During the battle, rebel spies managed
to steal secret plans to the Empire's
ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR, an
armored space station with enough
power to destroy an entire planet.
Pursued by the Empire's sinister agents,
Princess Leia races home aboard her
starship, custodian of the stolen plans
that can save her people and restore
freedom to the galaxy....
Of importance is the line: "...rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR."
It's possible the "rebel spies" could very well have worked for the Rebellion.
Further details include mention that the Millennium Falcon is involved, and that Han Solo is not in the movie.
Another detail is stating a character that will be featured in this spinoff will first be introduced (assumed as his/her older self) in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which gets released a year prior.
It's unknown how much of the rumored plot is legit as the report mentions other sources have said it's possible, while still another source says it might not be the whole truth.
Perhaps there really are rebel spies going after the plans, but bounty hunters are sent after them by the Empire?
A Boba Fett Star Wars spinoff film has been rumored as well; certainly Boba Fett wouldn't work for both the Rebellion and the Empire (at least Darth Vader wouldn't allow it). Or maybe it's a bounty hunter vs bounty hunter movie as, technically, bounty hunters are basically hired guns, so each side could have their own.
