A few weeks ago it was learned that a Friday The 13th TV series is in development with original creator Sean S. Cunningham attached to the project as executive producer.
It will feature Jason, his mother and possibly Tommy Jarvis.
It's said there will be flashback scenes involving Jason and his mother.
Cunningham confirms Crystal Lake.
It sounds as if Jason will wear the hockey mask as Cunningham states, "Jason Voorhees will be an integral part of the series and he will definitely be ‘in character.'"
Jason's age is teased with Cunningham asking did Jason age or is he the same..."the end result is both disturbing and fitting with the story we’re hoping to tell."
More info will be forthcoming at Comic-Con: "Baghead Jason!! Gotta love it," Cunningham laughed.
Cunningham wouldn't say if the TV series was canon with the Friday The 13th movies, but offered, "How can we balance all that’s gone before with something new and pertinent today? But we are certainly not turning our back on what fans know and love about Friday the 13th."
It's also said they might actually tackle the idea of Jason's father: "Learning more about Jason’s father would certainly qualify as a great opportunity," Cunningham said. "And to put the record straight, those stories that have been floating around about Jason and Pamela and a virgin birth are just so wrong!”
Cunningham also calms fans' fears of having a toned-down Friday The 13th TV series as he compares them to some great shows already doing well on TV.
"The filters on violence and sex and language which used to exist in network television are quickly disappearing. There is a tremendous appetite for well-told stories, regardless of how horrifying the themes may be. Hannibal, American Horror Story, Fargo, True Detective, True Blood, Walking Dead… the list goes on and on. These are series which could not have been done well even ten years ago.”
