Joss Whedon's short-lived sci-fi series Firefly that also saw a movie spinoff with Serenity may not be done just yet.
The AVClub reports that Nathan Fillion teased a Firefly animated series at the recent New York Comic-Con.
"If we’re dreaming, tell me what you think about this: Firefly: The Animated Series," Fillion said.
Fillion's Firefly co-star, Sean Maher, also told the New York Post that he knows someone who is actually involved with the new animated series.
"I know somebody who is actually trying to get that done, who has approached Joss [Whedon, the creator] about it," Maher said. "He used to work with Guillermo del Toro."
Fans have been waiting a long time for more Firefly - anything - as the series was abruptly canceled by Warner Bros. back in 2002, with Firefly-creator Joss Whedon going on to direct The Avengers. Nathan Fillion notes that a sequel to Serentity would have most likely already have happened, but an animated series would work.
"I think there’s less face to be lost in an animated series,” Fillion said. “I think if there was going to be a second movie, it would have happened by now. That was eight years ago."
Nathan Fillion, currently starring in Disney and ABC's Castle, is also the fan-favorite character to portray Star-Lord in the upcoming Marvel Studios movie Guardians of the Galaxy.
