We just heard from WB president Jeff Robinov who stated that the Man of Steel is spearheading a DC shared movie universe, and now Zack Snyder says more of the same.
The big question is whether or not that will be a Justice League movie, a Man of Steel sequel, or stand alone DC character movies.
And a definite answer is not yet known.
What is known is that the Man of Steel does contain the beginnings of a DC shared movie universe.
"Do the DC characters exist in the universe I created? The answer is yes,” Snyder told HeroComplex. “In my mind, we have this fantastic character of Superman. It’s not madness that there would be others."
So what about Zack Snyder possibly directing Justice League?
Snyder said as of the interview that it doesn't exist and is unsure if he'll direct.
"Now, that being said, does a ‘Justice League’ movie exist now? No,” Snyder continued. “Whether or not I ever get to make that movie, I don’t know."
Another big question is whether The Dark Knight Trilogy director Christopher Nolan will continue with involvement in Justice League or any of the future Superman movies.
Previously, WB president Jeff Robinov made it be known that Nolan was responsible for coming up with the idea for a new Superman while doing Inception, and that Nolan and writer David Goyer came up with a story that kept the door open for the other DC characters. Nolan also seemed to tease further involvement as well, mentioning he was just taking a break from superhero films.
Now, Christopher Nolan is asked if he will be involved in further proceedings, with the director not specifically denying it, but not confirming as well.
"What I’ve been hoping for is to be able to take my kids to see a version of this story that is going to fry their imaginations the way the 1978 [‘Superman’] that Dick Donner did for me when I was an 8-year old boy,” Nolan said. “That’s what I’ve been focused on and that’s my role in things. So anything beyond that, I can’t comment."
Regarding doors being opened, Snyder does confirm that a Justice League or any other DC movie is a possibility.
"What is real is that there’s a crack — a foot — in the door. That’s promising,” Snyder told the HeroComplex. “The door is definitely open."
Man of Steel opens June 14th in IMAX 3D starring Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman and Michael Shannon as Zod.
