Looks like Don Cheadle may be suiting up as War Machine for The Avengers 2 as it has become known the actor will have a role in the sequel to Joss Whedon's 2012 Marvel Studios superhero flick that generated over $1 billion at the box office.
In an article by USA Today, it's mentioned that Cheadle "has a part to film in the next Avengers movie." Though it is not specifically stated he will be featured as War Machine - it could simply be an appearance by James Rhodes - but an appearance by Iron Man's right-hand man could be a strong possibility.
War Machine wasn't a part of the first Avengers movie - and there was a reason - as a preclude Iron Man 3 comic book from Marvel explained Rhodey's absence as he was on a mission in Asia. It was actually revealed that as Iron Man was battling Loki, he called War Machine for assistance, but War Machine couldn't get there on time as Rhodey was on the other side of the world.
Don Cheadle joins Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johannson and James Spader in The Avengers: Age Of Ultron, which has a May 1, 2015 release directed by Joss Whedon.
