I've been holding back on this one since the debut of the official synopsis for Thor 2, "The Dark World," but now have time to take a more in-depth look.
We know that Thor is going cosmic as it's said that Thor will be visiting the Nine Worlds, and with the official synopsis a couple revealing tidbits are featured:
• ...a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself.
• ...plunge the universe back into darkness.
• Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand...
• ...force him to sacrifice everything to save us all
Now the first blurb just about gives it away.
Interestingly enough, Marvel Studios tried to grab Galactus from Fox Studios who fits the bill; however, as that didn't happen, Marvel Studios could easily swap in another potential candidate -- Mikaboshi, the Chaos King.
Of course, the Chaos King could have been the film's villain all along - not Galactus - but Galactus would have been pretty darn awesome, we think.
Getting back to the Chaos King, he was featured in a recent large-scale Marvel Comics event written by Greg Pak and Fred Van Lente, Chaos War.
The Chaos King, known as the "void that pre-dates all existence," according to Van Lente in an exclusive interview with Cosmic Book news from 2010, wants to "return all existence to the chaos and darkness that existed before creation itself," added Greg Pak.
Now read the Thor 2 synopsis again.
Seems to fit, and the Chaos War did feature "gods," Asgardians, and of course, Earth's heroes.
Maybe we'll see Hercules?
