Really no surprise as The Avengers movie has shattered all kinds of records, but Disney let it be known that Avengers 2 is officially in the works.
Previously, Marvel Studios President and Producer Kevin Feige had already stated an Avengers sequel would be after Thor 2, Iron Man 3 and Captain America 2, which is to be expected because those movies already have release dates.
Now, in a conference call discussing quarterly earnings, Disney CEO Bob Iger stated that Avengers 2 is underway with an as-of-yet to be announced release date following the aforementioned Marvel Studios movies.
As of Tuesday, May 8th, The Avengers movie has brought in over $700 million worldwide, with $226.3 million of that coming from the U.S., which saw the movie debut just last Friday.
The Avengers movie assembles May 4th, 2012 and is directed by Joss Whedon, starring Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye.
