Well, we can thank Joshua Hale Fialkov for this one by the looks of things.
Fialkov walked away from both the Green Lantern Corps and Red Lanterns over editorial mandates to kill off John Stewart.
It seems Fialkov already had his story planned out, but then got the run-around, and editorial came back with the death of John Stewart.
So Fialkov left.
A number of sites confirmed the story, but now DC Comics is saying this all isn't so.
DC Comic PR man Alex Segura took to his Twitter in an attempt to clear up any "confusion," and he states that John Stewart isn't going to die.
Seeing a lot of unverified reports on this. To clarify: John Stewart is not going anywhere.
Maybe that should be: Isn't going to die. Now.
Likewise, new Green Lantern writer Robert Venditti let loose a similar post.
Lots of rumors out there. Here's the truth: Van and I have never even contemplated killing John Stewart.
We have plenty of plans for John. Plans that probably wouldn't work as well if he was, you know, dead.
As Bleeding Cool points out, those plans were for Josh Fialkov to kill off John Stewart, not Venditti.
Regardless what's what, at least John Stewart lives.
