While Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy has been getting all the attention for its success, the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes movie has passed $700 million this year as well.
The Dawn of the Planet of the Apes gross was pretty much on par with the first movie here in the U.S., but the sequel has spread like the Simian flu throughout the rest of the world.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes has a $208.155 million U.S. draw, with a whopping $492.195 million coming from foreign markets, which makes up 70% of the total gross.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes has surpassed its predecessor, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, by about $120 million.
The $700.350 million gross for Dawn currently puts it at #7 overall for this year.
Fox has set the third Apes movie with a July 29, 2016 release, which sees Matt Reeves returning to direct.
