Dan DiDio Responds To Remarks About Green Lantern Being A "Sausage-Fest"
[[wysiwyg_imageupload:7015:]]A fan on Facebook is wondering why Geoff Johns' run on Green Lantern never led to a female-centric GL book.
He compares the five-wide line (including Larfleeze) to a Sausage Fest as they are all male Green Lanterns starring in the books.
Doron Tuvia posted the following:
I've tried to stop pestering you with questions, but I am interested to know why Geoff John's success on the Green Lantern books didn't bring about a female lantern book. You'd think that the success of that franchise would feed into a female book. Female books are a hard sell. It would have been a win-win. Star Sapphire would have been an excellent choice. I think you've said in the past that you wanted new books to come off the energy of big things happening in the universe. Well right now, the GL universe looks like a sausage-fest and there is a different energy without Johns there. It is hard to tell if it would still work. It all depends on how loyal fellow Lantern fans are. You would probably know that more then I. I don't doubt that you know what you're doing. I just can't help but question why triggers aren't going off quicker with popular book franchises. Energy dies. It is time to capitalize on things people like when they like them. The time where people will give almost everything a chance is behind us. I'm not saying being back old characters -- at all. I actually like that the world is moving in a different direction. Now with solicitations, it is hard to be excited for much -- unless the timing is right. The stars need to align. And I think that could be done with more planning. I'm sure you're planning ahead, but every moment should feel like "fate." That way when you build up to these "events," the excitement builds to the inevitable. It creates much more suspense. And suspense creates excitement. Ask "Lost." I should add some examples, but my head hurts from ranting. I have faith in what you guys do, but as a fan, I would like to feel excited all of the time. It is what keeps me invested in anything. Ugh. My head is killing me. ADVIL!
DiDio's reponse? They are introducing a new charater and we should be on the look out for it.
Wow, where to begin. Lol thanks for the thoughts Doron, there are lots of great plans for GL following Geoff, the creative teams know they have a tough act to follow and they are up to the task. And between you and me, we will be sneak peeking one of the new GL characters later this week. Keep an eye out for it!
Maybe we'll have the Taco Fest soon enough.
