[[wysiwyg_imageupload:4390:]]The big screen adaptation of Claudio Sanchez's Amory Wars is in early development and has partnered with Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson’s Leverage (Boardwalk Empire, Entourage, Contraband) .
Coheed and Cambria frontman Claudio Sanchez spoke with THR and offered an update that the movie is moving forward.
Word first surfaced back in the Summer at the San Diego Comic-Con about an Amory Wars movie, and now Sanchez says, "It’s very preliminary stages. Because the mythology is very dense and a lot of parts are already created ... it’s just trying to find the right starting point to get people attracted to it.”
The film is being adapted from Sanchez's own comic book of the same name, described by Boom! Studios as, "a stunning space saga like none other in comics today."
Sanchez goes on to mention that he hopes to be a part of the creative process of the movie, and as his comic book is so expansive, thinks it still will find its audience.
"I think the story is pretty universal in terms of the themes and the subplots,” Sanchez told THR. “I think people can find a character they can connect to or find as their favorite. And they can get behind the main character as well. It’s a universal story and I think it’s going to draw a bigger audience than just the band’s. I think it has already.”
Sanchez recently partnered with well-known comic book scribe Peter David and Boom! Studios for The Amory Wars: In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth 3.
Here's a description for Amory Wars from Boom! Studios:
THE AMORY WARS is the story of Claudio Kilgannon, son of Coheed and Cambria, the subjects of a privately developed anti-terrorist unit. The insidious Supreme Tri-mage Wilhelm Ryan, self-proclaimed ruler of Heaven’s Fence, a network of 78 planets, sets forth to decimate those that could stand in his way, including Coheed, Cambria and their children. Claudio must discover his role in this galactic turmoil and come to terms with his own growth in worlds that are always changing. THE AMORY WARS is the story behind the band Coheed and Cambria’s music, allowing fans to finally unlock the true course of events encrypted in the lyrics since the band first debuted.
