Good news for Marvel Studios as they were up against heavy competition from the new animated movie Rio 2, but Captain America 2 managed to remain #1 at the box office for the second weekend in a row.
For its April record-breaking premiere last weekend, Captain America 2 brought in about $96 million domestically, and now has added another $41.4 million this weekend thanks to a powerful Saturday showing.
In its first two opening weeks, Captain America: The Winter Soldier has just about matched its total domestic gross for The First Avenger ($177 million) with $159 million and has already surpassed First Avenger's total worldwide gross ($371 million) as Cap 2 now stands at $476.1 million globally.
Rio 2 opened with $39 million.
"Captain America 2" is currently in theaters starring Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, Samuel L. Jackson, Sebastian Stan and Robert Redford.
